Consumer SaaS | Life Admin and Transitions | 2024
The Context
An automated service that simplifies the legal and administrative burden of changing your name. Most commonly triggered by weddings, divorce, or personal identity shifts.
While the product solved a clear operational problem, growth was constrained by something deeper:
name change decisions include identity, timing, emotional load, and bureaucracy. Traditional performance marketing approaches struggled to fully account for this complexity.
The Real Problem
The challenge was decision readiness.
Potential customers were:
- aware of the service
- interested in reducing paperwork
- but hesitant at the moment of purchase due to emotional overwhelm, uncertainty, or poor timing
Growth required deep audience understanding across life stages, emotional states, and motivations.
The Audience Insight
Using Applied Audience Intelligence, we identified that customers weren’t buying a “name change service.”
They were buying:
- relief from mental load
- reassurance during a transition moment
- permission to prioritise ease during an already complex life event
Critically, different segments (newly married, divorced, reclaiming identity) were making the same purchase for very different reasons and needed to be spoken to differently.
The Strategy
As a fractional growth marketer, I worked closely with a lean team to build a strategy anchored in who the audience was becoming, not just what they needed to do.
The approach focused on:
- Segmenting audiences by life event and emotional context, not just demographics
- Refining messaging to meet customers at their decision moment, not their awareness stage
- Aligning acquisition, conversion, and pricing communication around perceived value, not feature explanation
- Identifying scalable growth levers with clear, measurable ROI
Rather than chasing volume, the strategy prioritised relevance, and timing.
Execution (High-Level)
Working within an agile team, execution spanned:
- Market and channel analysis to identify underutilised, high-intent acquisition opportunities
- Messaging refinement across paid, organic, and onsite touchpoints
- Conversion and journey optimisation to reduce friction during emotionally loaded decisions
- Close collaboration with product to ensure marketing insights fed back into user experience improvements
All activity was measured against commercial impact, not vanity metrics.
The Results
Key Achievements:
- 67% Year-over-Year Revenue Growth
- 58% Growth in Sales Units
- 7% Increase in Average Sale Price
These outcomes reflected not only stronger acquisition, but improved value communication and increased customer confidence at the point of purchase.
Why This Matters
This project demonstrates how Applied Audience Intelligence can unlock growth in categories where decisions are driven by emotion, identity, and timing, not just price or convenience.
By aligning strategy to the audience’s internal decision process — rather than forcing conventional funnels — we were able to scale efficiently without sacrificing trust or sensitivity.
The result was a repeatable growth framework suited to life-event-driven businesses.
